A Patio Pond Brings Beauty To Your Own Back Door

If you live in an apartment, looking for a way to bring the quiet and calm of nature into your home life, why not put something right on your patio.

A patio pond is one of the simplest style of ponds to build and the options for your patio base can be just about any type of container or pot that you choose to use. If you follow a few a few rules and take certain steps you will ensure your patio pond brings you lots of pleasure rather than problems and frustration. If done the right way, the set up is very easy and it should last for some time.

A Free Standing Fountain makes a great water feature

A garden fountain that is free standing is a great way to introduce water to your patio. You can purchase these as a complete kit or if you prefer, create something unique by purchasing items separately.

There are lots of choices to be had and some of these water features are spectacular but remember, you are trying to create your own small oasis of peace and tranquility. You want to be able to hear water trickling not recreate the sounds of water water rapids. Choose something that is compatible with the size of your patio.

These water features (such as the one shown here)  stand in a reservoir and it is this that forms your patio pond. There are many different containers to choose from. Some are designed to look like large pots or urns. Your water feature is fed by a pump that sits at the bottom of the reservoir and then you can add a few plants and flowers.

If you have devised your own reservoir, perhaps from an old porcelain sink or plastic tub, you can disguise it with small rocks and pebbles to create something unique. By visiting a garden center, you are sure to come up with some great ideas for your patio pond. Take your time deciding and try to pick something that blends well with your patio and your home.

Using Flowers To Add Beauty To The Sound of water

When your patio pond is built to your liking and satisfaction and you are happy the water feature is working fine, you can then start deciding on plant life. If its large enough you may even consider adding a few fish. Some of these aquatic plants are very expensive so its always best to seek advice from your local garden center or research a plant you have already decided on before buying. Check things such as "will my small patio pond be big enough for this plant to thrive" and "does it get enough or too much sun."
